The responsibilities for this position will include some or all of the following: teaching, student advising, service, administrative responsibilities, and professional development activities. Your responsibilities may include involvement in off-campus, evening or weekend duties, as well as student recruitment, retention and placement efforts. Because each school employs somewhat different descriptions of some of these elements, your department head or dean will supply you with your policy. Your academic department may also provide you with more specific set of job expectations.
Doctoral degree in psychology, or a related discipline within the field of psychology plus two years' college teaching experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of and/or experience in teaching introduction to psychology, human growth and development, psychopathology, child and adolescent psychopathology, and/or research methods and data analysis courses.
Excellent communication skills are essential and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, service and technology application in the classroom.
Excellent interpersonal and group communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of students.
Demonstrated ability to teach and evaluate undergraduate students.
Familiarity with instructional techniques designed to reach students of varying preparation levels and abilities.
Strong organizational skills
Working (or Advanced) knowledge in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to work in Blackboard or a similar online learning management system
Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, fieldwork, and course preparation; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; preparing teaching materials; conferring with students on course materials; directing individual and group studies and practical exercises; reviewing written examinations and papers; evaluating presentations; and supervising independent study projects. Professional peer review is an essential feature of effective teaching.
Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 18 contact hours per academic year.
Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly.
Prepare courses in accordance with published faculty workload guidelines and departmental requirements.
Prepare and distribute course syllabi according to university and departmental requirements. Student advising includes time spent meeting with students for your course regarding academic, curricular and career matters.
Administrative responsibilities include writing syllabi, grading course work, submitting final grades.
Professional development activities include attending department or school meetings, collaborating with other instructors on course design and delivery, and attending other professional development opportunities offered by the University, School, or profession that enhance teaching and personal professional development.
