The Biobehavioral and Social-Emotional Development (BASE) Lab (PI: Dr. Nicholas Wagner) in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Boston University is seeking a full-time Lab Manager to assist with the coordination of multiple research projects. Research projects broadly focus on understanding the systems and processes that promote psychosocial adaptation or contribute to the emergence of psychopathology across development. Specifically, the BASE Lab examines how early experiences and children's self-regulation shape trajectories across various domains of adaptive functioning, including social competence, prosocial and empathic behaviors, and school success, and maladaptive functioning, including aggression, callous-unemotional traits, and anxiety. This position is ideal for a recent graduate looking for additional research experience prior to applying to graduate school in a field related to children's health, such as developmental or clinical psychology programs, as it provides invaluable experience employing cutting-edge research methodologies to answer complex and important questions.
The lab manager will work closely with Dr. Wagner and other BASE Lab members on every aspect of the research process. Primary responsibilities will include participant recruitment and scheduling, planning and preparing for data collection, and collecting, managing, and cleaning behavioral, observational, and psychobiological data. The position will also involve administrative activities for the lab, including helping with purchasing supplies, IRB and grant submissions, and recruitment of undergraduates. There will also be opportunities for the successful candidate to develop and pursue their own research interests, including leading conference or article submissions.
A BA/BS in Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or Research Statistics.
1-2 years of research experience (e.g., data collection, scheduling, and recruitment), preferably with working with children (an equivalent combination of education and experience can be considered).
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Comfortable interacting with parents and children from a variety of demographic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Detail-oriented, motivated, creative, organized, and able to work independently.
Experience in Microsoft Excel and statistical analysis software (R, SAS, SPSS, Mplus, and/or MatLab).
Ability to work efficiently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
Flexible work availability (including occasional evenings and weekends).
Prior experience using eye-tracking, psychophysiological, and/or computer-based experimental methodologies in the context of psychological or mental health research.
Proficient programming skills in Python, R, and Matlab.
