IFO FACULTY NOTICE OF VACANCY Psychology Faculty College of Community Studies and Public Affairs Probationary (Tenure-Track) Appointment
METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY, a vibrant and growing public, urban university, is seeking to fill a full-time probationary (tenure-track) faculty position, at the rank of Assistant Professor, in Psychology, beginning August 2019. We seek a candidate whose focus is developmental psychology. Area of specialization (e.g., cognitive development, social development, etc.) is open, though candidates with specialization in human development across the lifespan are especially encouraged to apply.
Faculty members are expected to
Teach topic-specific courses in developmental psychology (e.g. Adolescent Psychology, Lifespan Developmental Psychology) effectively at the undergraduate level
Teach general courses such as: Fundamentals of Psychological Science, Research Methods & History and Systems of Psychology.
Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement
Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study
Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance
Engage in service to the university and community
Outstanding candidates will demonstrate a commitment to serving a culturally diverse student body and to student-centered education, and will possess the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.
Ph.D. in psychology or related discipline by the time of appointment;
Evidence of effective college-level teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: general psychology, research methods, history and systems of psychology, developmental psychology or similar psychology courses.
Demonstrated ability to teach general courses effectively at the undergraduate level (e.g. Research Methods, History & Systems of Psychology)
Demonstrated ability to teach topic-specific courses in developmental psychology effectively at the undergraduate level (e.g. Lifespan Developmental Psychology, Adolescent Psychology).
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement curriculum (e.g. upper level courses in the candidate's area of expertise)
Preparation to teach courses in developmental psychology at the graduate level (e.g. Lifespan Developmental Psychology)
Experience linking theoretical and practical learning to student-centered education
Evidence of research expertise in psychology
Experience engaging students in research
Experience with student advising, university service, and/or linking scholarship to community engagement.
Experience working with culturally, economically, and/or linguistically diverse populations.

Academic Department: Psychology is among the top majors at Metropolitan State, and our courses also support the general education program and students completing individualized degrees. The Department has 11 full-time faculty and graduates about 100 majors per year, with degrees in Psychology (BA) or Early Childhood Studies (BAS). Candidates whose specialization encompasses development beyond early childhood would offer an especially interesting complement to existing faculty expertise.
Faculty and students have access to the Psychology Lab, including select equipment and workspaces to conduct meaningful research. The University also uses Sona Systems, an online research participation system that is compliant with human subjects' regulations. Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement.
