The Department of Psychology is seeking candidates for the upcoming school year (most of the time a full-time tenure-track teaching position). Responsibilities begin mid-August. Academic rank will be based on degrees and experience. The compensation level depends upon the education and experience of the appointee. The Department of Psychology at Point Loma Nazarene University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track professor position in Psychology. The expected start date is August 15th, 2019. Initial rank will be determined by experience and academic qualifications. Candidates with research experience and expertise in Human Cognition are preferred, and the area of specialization is open. Candidates must have an interest in teaching psychology courses related to Cognition and Learning as well as a mix of other course offerings. We also recognize the strength that diverse perspectives, experiences and backgrounds bring to our department and invite applications from people who are eager to nurture and support students from a wide variety of backgrounds. Candidates from disciplines related to cognitive psychology, neuroscience, social psychology, and experimental psychology are encouraged to apply.
We are seeking candidates with expertise in experimental research and strong quantitative skills. A PhD in Psychology by August 2019 is preferred, but an ABD will be considered in unusual circumstances. The course load is 12 units per semester and will include upper and lower division psychology courses. Ongoing research activities are expected, and those that emphasize undergraduate student collaboration are especially valued. Applicants should demonstrate commitment to the university’s mission, undergraduate teaching, research, and professional development. Teach undergraduate psychology courses including Cognition and Learning as well as a mix of other course offerings. Typical load includes 24 units of teaching per year.
Conduct scholarly research, with the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students.
Participate in departmental activities and governance.
Serve on faculty committees and perform other normal faculty duties.
Off-campus community engagement.
