Student Counseling Services, a department within the Division of Student Affairs, is a comprehensive center providing brief individual, group and couples counseling, crisis intervention, campus outreach, program development, consultation and liaison to other campus and community partners. This position includes a combination of administrative and clinical duties and reports to the Director. The position provides daily direction and guidance to clinical staff of student counseling services and assists the Director in maintaining policy and procedures for the center. Responsibilities include direct clinical care, such as individual, group and couples counseling, brief assessment, and crisis intervention with students, as well as supervision of professional staff, development of outreach and educational programs, and consultation to the campus community to promote mental health. This position will also be responsible for crisis management and will participate on committees, as well as collaborate and consult with administrators, faculty and students on issues/programs related to various issues on campus.
Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology with completion of a clinical internship. Considerable experience (3-5 years) providing psychological services, such as clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and brief therapy. Licensure as a psychologist in the state of Virginia within one year of start date. Advanced training and/or experience in clinical supervision. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Ability to treat all people equitably and with a sensitivity and awareness to cultural differences. Considerable knowledge of professional ethics and the ability to apply to current work. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Self-motivated with demonstrated understanding of the developmental issues of college students.
Degree from an APA accredited program and internship. Current licensure in the state of Virginia. Experience working in a college/university counseling center. Demonstrated ability to work with first generation college student issues. Experience with electronic mental health records.
